America's Best Cities (part 2)
Best Culture
When it comes to culture there can really only be one winner – New York. We may already have given the Big Apple the nod for best food but much as it would be nice not to repeat winners I’m afraid it’s impossible to look any further (in truth New York could have come out top in almost all the categories but that would have been boring). Of course there are other great cultural cities in America, not least San Francisco or Chicago but the sheer scope of New York’s cultural offerings - world class art museums and more edgy underground galleries, some of the best theatre in the world and illustrious classical music venues - surely make it the number one destination for culture-vultures.
Best Nightlife
This would once have been another hands down New York victory but the general consensus these days is that since the city has cleaned up its act it has sadly lost a bit of the edge that made it such a legendary place to party. So, whilst New York may well be the city that never sleeps, we’ll look elsewhere for our best nightlife destination. How about Miami? This is a city with plentiful opportunities for hedonistic good times and nocturnal thrills and spills. Although many of the clubs and bars have seemingly put some effort into creating a carefully maintained air of exclusivity and one might be put off by the occasionally prohibitive prices the city is bulging with enough dance clubs and stylish bars to ensure that you’ll never have to spend too long looking for a memorable night out.
Best for families
Orlando is a well established favourite for family holidays and it’s not hard to see why; for a start there’s Walt Disney World, still surely the biggest and best theme park anywhere in the world, which alone makes it a pretty unbeatable choice for anyone with kids in tow. On top of Disney World, which incorporates several amusement parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom) there are several other world class attractions such as SeaWorld and Universal Studios all of which means its hard to look any further than Orlando if keeping the kids entertained is a priority.
For holidays and cheap flights to America visit Travel Zoo or search for flights to the USA on flight comparison websites like Cheap Flights or Opodo. At the time of writing cheap flights to New York were available from cheapflights.co.uk at £222 flying from Heathrow in January.
